How do you

secure a load?

The Load Restraint Guide (LRG) provides transport drivers, operators, and other participants in the transport chain such as freight consignors, as well as vehicle and equipment manufacturers and suppliers with basic safety principles which should be followed for the safe carriage of loads on road vehicles.

Since publication of the original LRG in 1994, a number of concerns have been raised by industry over issues including the technical complexity, limited coverage of some types of loads, test procedures and user friendliness of the LRG. To address this problem, a review of the 1994 LRG has been conducted with specific focus on the content, layout and amendment of the Guide.

This review of the LRG was part of the NRTC ‘s 3rd Heavy Vehicle Reform Package and the Roads and Traffic Authority NSW (RTA) acted as the lead agency for this review.

A steering committee comprising representatives from RTA (chair), NRTC, Australian Trucking Association, Transport Workers’ Union and Queensland Transport was formed to oversee the review project.
